Difference between Duplication and Replication?
Duplicated discs have data "burned" onto them by a laser burning the dye on a prepared surface. Duplication is usually less expensive for orders under 1000 discs and turnaround times are much quicker. Duplication can included full color water resisted inkjet or full color thermal disc. The replication process starts with the creation of a glass master. This glass master is then used to make a "father" mold and then a "mother" mold which is used as the replication master for an injection/stamping process. Unlike many of our competitors, NTS does not charge for creating glass masters. Replication is less expensive for large orders and includes full color offset printing. The
difference between compact disk replication and CD duplication is that
replication is a professional process that creates a CD by molding the
disk to be an exact copy of the original master. Data cannot be added
or changed in this case. Duplication, on the other hand, refers to burning
data to a disk, as is done in house on duplication towers.
We
offer full color duplication with three options to choose from. We have
standard inkjet printing; this is where this disc artwork is printed on
a white or sliver Taiyo Yuden inkjet cd. Inkjet is not waterproof and
will smear if it gets wet. It is a great for small promo runs. 
We now offer the new Taiyo Yuden watershield discs as well. This is an
inkjet printable disc that is water resisted. These will not smear or
rub off but it allows you to get a small quantity of high quality print.
We now offer high quality color thermal printed disc as well. This is
the best quality of full color you can get without having to use silkscreen/offset
disc. If you are looking for a short runs of an album but want it to look
the best you can get the Everest thermal color is the way to go.
